How Kalat Ceramiche's Moor's Heads are made

The Kalat Ceramiche Moro Heads are made exclusively by hand, according to a process that has been handed down in Caltagirone for centuries, giving life to a one-of-a-kind product.

• The clay is forged and modeled by hand, giving life to the different characteristic figures of the dark brown heads;
• The object is then fired for the First Firing at a temperature of 970 degrees;
• In this phase the dark brown is enamelled and decorated by hand by Calatinian master craftsmen;
• The dark brown is then subjected to a Second Firing at a temperature of approximately 930 degrees which determines the process of ceramisation and vitrification of the product;
• In the last phase the product can be embellished with Precious Metals (Gold or Platinum) and Lusters followed by the Third and final firing.

Every detail of the Testa di Moro is handmade and this makes each work unique.

The decoration is embellished with 24 carat gold details.

Its history and meaning is very ancient and dates back to the era of Moorish domination in Sicily, tells of a girl from Palermo and a young man Moro and their tragic love immortalized in these artistic works by ceramic.
