A perfect wine for an aperitif, paired with raw fish, vegetarian dishes and delicate meats. Excellent at 10-12° C.
PRODUCTION AREA South-western Sicily, Tenuta di Contessa Entellina and neighboring territories.
UVE Rosa is the result of an original blend of two black grape varieties, among the most representative of Sicilian viticulture, Nerello Mascalese and Nocera. Nerello Mascalese grown on volcanic soils manages to express minerality and a refined floral component, and is very well suited for the production of rosé wines. Nocera is an ancient, almost forgotten variety with a prestigious past. After years of experimentation, Donnafugata planted it in its hillside vineyards; here the Nocera reaches an ideal sugary maturation with a high level of acidity, and gives life to a wine with an attractive fruity bouquet.
SOIL AND CLIMATE Altitude from 200 to 400 m above sea level; hilly orography; clay loam soils with a sub-alkaline reaction (pH from 7.5 to 7.9) rich in nutritional elements (potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc) and total limestone from 20 to 35%). Mild winters; dry and windy summers with strong temperature variations between day and night. VINEYARD Vertical training with spurred cordon pruning, leaving 6 to 10 buds for each plant. Planting density from 4,500 to 6,000 plants per hectare and yields of 75-85 quintals per hectare.
VINTAGE AND HARVEST At the Donnafugata estate in Contessa Entellina, in the heart of western Sicily, the 2022 vintage was characterized by good rainfall which was concentrated in autumn and spring. Thanks to careful agronomic management, the vegetative-production cycle took place regularly; the Nocera grapes were harvested around mid-September, perfectly healthy and ripe. In the Donnafugata vineyards on Etna – between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia at 700-750 m. above sea level – the climatic trend of the year was overall favourable; The quality of the Nerello Mascalese grapes which were harvested in the second half of September is excellent.
VINIFICATION AND AGING Upon their arrival in the cellar, the bunches were released onto a vibrating table for manual sorting; only the perfectly intact grapes were destemmed and delicately pressed; the cold maceration of the grapes in the must lasted 6-12 hours and allowed the best extraction of the aromatic precursors as well as the color that distinguishes this rosé. After fermentations at controlled temperatures, the final blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nocera was created; refinement followed for 2 months in tanks and at least 3 months in bottles before being released on the market.
TASTING NOTES With a bright pale pink colour, it has a large floral bouquet of jasmine and rose petals, with delicate fruity notes of white pulp peach and bergamot. With a very pleasant fragrance and minerality, it stands out for its finesse and persistence.
LONGEVITY To be enjoyed within 2-3 years.
DIALOGUE WITH CREATIVITY The production of a rosé wine was strongly desired by Dolce&Gabbana, fascinated by this unmistakable colour, and the name Rosa was chosen precisely to emphasize its unique personality. And just as Donnafugata gave life to an unprecedented blend of two Sicilian vines, so the creativity of Dolce&Gabbana took up the challenge of describing this fine wine, taking care of its coordinated image: the immediately recognizable graphics of the materials draw inspiration from the iconic Sicilian cart which represents the craftsmanship, culture and tradition of the island throughout the world.
